The topic of this pathfinder is the Twilight Series written by author Stephenie Meyer. The purpose of this pathfinder is to take the teenage audience beyond the series by creating paths into other connected areas of study. It is not every day that a series comes along that enchants teenage readers like Meyer's incredibly successful trilogy. When reader's come to the end of their reading, a stage of mourning sets in, "we" simply do not want it be over yet. In fact, many readers continue to re-read and re-visit this series in anticipation of the new novel and the movie set to be released in December.
When a series captivates audiences as this one does, it leads to many open doors within and beyond the pages of the novel. The intention of this pathfinder is to provide answers to the questions and topics raised within the novel, provide extensive information and resources, and take the audience beyond the pages of the novel, to places they never considered going before.
In this day in age, reading is so important. There is a need for librarians, teachers, and parents to encourage their children to read a variety of materials. For those readers that fall in love with this series, this pathfinder simply provides more.
This pathfinder is separated into five searchable areas: Stephenie Meyer, Vampires, Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse. The resources for this topic were extensive. Reasonably, fans of the series will be interested in reading materials from all these pages but probably in a certain order, and that was the intention of separating them into five distinct areas.
The Stephenie Meyer page provides fans with links to biographical information written about Meyer by critics and the author herself. This page also provides links to current critical articles about Meyer. Here fans will also find the link to Meyer's own official Twilight webpage with extensive links of its own.
The Vampire link is for readers interested in going within and beyond the series. It begins with a generalizion of the type of vampires immortalized in Meyer's series but then proceeds to provide suggested paths for other vampire literature and films.
The Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse links provide information about everything and anything reserachable that was mentioned in Meyer's series, from the music of classical musician Debussey, to facts about cliff diving and abstinence information. These links will help clarify information introduced within the novel by providing more extensive information, found at the easy click of a button. In terms of organziation, all three pages are designed to be semi-chronological. In other words, as readers progress through the novel, the pathfinder progresses with them by providing those paths to further information, written and visual. Overall, the subject matter was best divided into three separate pages for readers who didn't want to be spoiled by what was yet to come.
Within each page, the resource is accompanied by an extensive annotation that defines the inclusion of this resource. Without giving too much away, the intention of this description is to draw the reader into the path by giving them just enough information to get them intrigued. Then they have to use the suggested resource themselves to gain the greatest benefits.
